Tree Planting

The SCC 25th anniversary task force planted 100 tree seedlings in just over an hour for the Living Green Expo coming up on June 16!

If you haven't heard about it, the Living Green Expo will be a fun-filled day of interactive, family-oriented exhibits designed to educate people of all ages about how to be more green. It's from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, in the new red parking lot on the SCC campus.

There will be activities and prizes for the whole family, including free electronics recycling, art projects, free tree seedlings, and appearances by "EVie," an electric truck from the St. Louis Science Center, and the 2012 Chevy Volt, as well as other hybrid vehicles. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit stchas.edu/livinggreen.

Plus, there will be a 25th anniversary commemorative tree planting ceremony at 10 a.m. The 25th anniversary committee will also have a booth at the expo, and that's where the 100 tree seedlings come in – that's right, we will be giving away 100 free trees to anyone who attends the Living Green Expo! So be sure to check it out!

In case you're wondering, the tree seedlings are witch hazel, which looks like this:

We will also be handing out 25th anniversary wildflower seed packets. Fellow blogger and SCC grounds supervisor Dan Porter is hosting a friendly competition to see who can grow the best plants from the seed packets. Read his blog to find out more about the contest.

Hope to see you all at the Living Green Expo on June 16! And be sure to stop by the 25th anniversary booth for a free tree (while supplies last)!
